The Summer Marches On

As the basic structure of our cabin was to be a
24 x 28 Cape with a half loft, we decided to build a timberframe, filling in the "bents" or frame components with the cordwood. Naturally, we decided to take a week long class at the Shelter Institute in Bath, ME on timberframe building.

Had a great time, and learned a bunch, but we decided that if we were ever going to actually get a house built, we'd have to make a few modifications to the expert builder's rules ("Postcard Joinery"- HA! We've outlined OUR rules below). We ordered our wood (white pine, in 6 x 8 and 8 x 8 dimensions), got our tools ready, and jumped on the task. As we chiseled and hammered, Sam's uncle got busy digging our well, and piling up the gravel pad for the concrete slab.

A right angle's 98 degrees, right?

Just keep going-
no matter what happens,
we've always got
wood glue, shims,
& duct tape!
